A group of outstandingly dedicated individuals volunteer for SquashBusters as coaches, tutors, and community service partners. They come to practices, academic sessions, and community service projects, and are committed to developing relationships with each kid and making a difference in their lives.  Without this group of people, SquashBusters would simply not exist.

“I’ve volunteered for countless organizations. What sets SquashBusters apart and makes it so rewarding for me is that the SquashBusters staff set clear and high expectations for each team
member, and provide intensive and individualized support so the kids keep their nose to the grindstone and experience concrete success.  Over the three years that I’ve volunteered on a weekly basis for SquashBusters,  I’ve witnessed tremendous growth in the kids.  That’s what keeps me coming back.”

David Smoyer
volunteer since 1996

“It’s a privilege to work with such motivated kids that are seemingly growing right in front of your eyes.  SquashBusters’ high standards attract me as a volunteer, and for the kids create self-respect and pride.”

Gretchen Weske
volunteer from Kennedy School of Government

All new volunteers will be required to attend a brief orientation prior to starting, and all academic volunteers will be required to attend a group tutor orientation to learn about the curriculum. The ideal volunteer will commit to one or two days each week for a semester so as to develop relationships with a group of students. Volunteer tutors must be at least 16 years old to work with middle school students, and 18 or older to work with high school students.

Volunteer one day a week or once every other week. Homework tutoring sessions occur Monday through Thursday, from 2:15pm to 7pm. Times are flexible.

Outgoing and personable, extended knowledge of one or two subject areas helpful.

Squash

Squash players of "D" (2.5) level or above with at least one year of playing experience are needed to coach SquashBuster players in grades 6-12. You will receive daily lesson plans and guidance from the Director of Squash, and play an integral role in the development of young squash players. Even if you have never coached before, your energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the game will be put to use on court. Squash sessions run Monday-Friday from 2:15-6pm, and Saturday from 9-11:30am.

All new volunteers must attend a brief orientation before beginning, and all squash volunteers must attend periodic coaching clinics.
